Camillo honored as Grand Marshal in Saint-Roch
This year’s Feast of St. Roch culminated on August 15 with a procession through the streets of Chickahominy as parishioners carried a statue of San Rocco.
First Selectman Fred Camillo, this year’s Grand Marshal, called him an honor he will remember forever. The Feast celebrates San Rocco, Saint Roch, the patron saint of infectious diseases and dogs, which Camillo noted.
âIn the past 17 months, the world has experienced the worst pandemic in over 100 years. All over the world people have prayed to San Rocco, but with even more meaning over the past year and a half, âhe said.
âAlso, as a dog lover, (I appreciate) the remarkable story of how a starving, ailing, lonely man was given food every day by a stray dog, who not only stayed with him, but healed his wounds by licking the future saint. , said Camille. “It is symbolic of the bond between man and dog that lasted for centuries before and after the life of Saint-Roch.”
